A friend of mine has a RIO 800 and installs the software that came with it....which is HORRIBLE stuff with Real Player built in. I've played with a couple MP3 plays and I was able to get them to transfer files using a storage driver and Windows Explorer. The player usually just shows up as another drive on the system (Win2k and XP). Is there a mass storage driver that he can use so he can dump the nasty software package that came with the player?
