As a runner I need to find a portable media device that best fits my pace of running. From what I've researched this model of Rio is the best player.

I'd like to know if anyone owns this or has heard bad about it or perhaps offer an alternative that is better.

Thanks.

Umm, I have one, the 256M version, it's great when I run and bike and work out - and as of yesterday they are discontinued. Rio is exiting the MP3 market. So you may be able to find a good price on one, but be aware that you many have warranty and support issues.

Rio: poor QC, but great ergonomics. Hopefully someone will copy/buy the designs. Check Rio's forums. I was close to getting a Forge until that...

Apple: iTunes or 3rd-party DB software. Eh. No display. Cheap, though.

Cowon: I'm biased, of course (I have a I5 1GB), but look into the I5 and U2. The U2 might be just what you need. browsing is by file tree, not DB.
iRiver: also good stuff.

Check it out for yourselves

It didn't say it was water resistant or proof - I would NOT get a sports MP3 that doesn't say that - again. I had an MSI MP3 that lasted me two months before I got some sweat from my hands into it just by operating the controls while working out, and BAM $100 down the drain. Never played another note.

There are a number of sports-specific, water-resistant MP3 out there...if you really want to use it for that, look for them.

Update on the IRiver T10 player.

I've used it in a long work out.

I can tell you this:

Arm patch is extremely stable, the player is very light.

The sound is incredible and the lcd graphics rock.

The only problem one might encounter is getting sweaty fingers and touching the buttons, that could pose a problem.

Other than that, it's great, feel free to pose any questions I'll be happy to answer.

i have the 256, theres a small problem with some rio players: they dont turn on.

the battery contacts are funky and you have to play with them after you change batteries sometimes. even then it doesnt always work and you have to plug it in to the usb cord and get the pc to recognize it to get it working again.

doesnt happen often, but its frustrating and silly.

otherwise if you can find one cheap, i like it, and they have a sd slot that can hold a 1gig card for extra music love.
