Rio 600 upgrade question . . .

I got one of these on clearance for dirt cheap and was wanting to stick some more memory into it. The backpacks for upgrading the memory seem pretty tough to come by. I was wondering, would it be possible to dissasemble the backpack that came with it and upgrade the memory?

Or would I have to buy a true upgrade backpack, and upgrade the flash memory in it? Any ideas are welcome.

There was supposed to be a 340MB microdrive backpack, but I guess it's not available.

Memory packs seem really scarce; would I be better off just taking it back and buying a 20GB Nomad for ~199?
 
It supports upto 340mb via a backpack upgrade. I havnt seen the upgrades for it for ages, as i`ve had the 32mb version for years.
I presume that the internal memory, is soldered to the board, the actual backpack that comes with it has no memory in it, the memory is in the main unit. Thats why, with the official software, you have the choice of internal memory(the main one), and external memory(the memory that would come in a backpack upgrade).
Have a look around as many website as you can think of, Try the official website as well, i think that they still sell stuff.

The official site is out of stock on the only backpack they have, which is the 32MB. Every other store I can find is OOS as well.

So, screw it. I'm taking it back and gonna buy a 10GB Nomad Jukebox at Best Buy. They're on sale for $149.
 
The backpack system ended up being a mistake(SonicBlue ditched it after the 600/800 series), and as such, not very many backpacks were made since people weren't buying them. You're definately best off returning it and getting something different.
