Yeah, that's unfortunate. Looks like a 32M backpack is about $35 now. Anyone know if you can mod this thing to accept CF or Smartmedia?

No way.

Memory for the newer Rio player is so expensive that even if they were giving them away for free it wouldn't be a hot deal. You'd be better off buying a cheap Nomad and getting 64 meg smart media card for $20

The one sold at ecost.com is refurbished. I know some folks have been able to AmEx price-match in these types of situations, but you will probably need to add the caveat that YMMV...
