Just recently took advantage of the HP CD-RW + RIO 500 combo listed in this thread. Friend and I are splitting the deal 50/50 (he wants CD-RW....I want RIO). But I digress.

I found some Smart Media (as listed by another forum user), but I am not certain that it will be compatible with the RIO.

Anyone have any feedback or recommendations for reliable Smart Media?

thnx,

Check out Rio's web site, they should have some type of listing of what is compatible.

I'm pretty sure that the Rio 500 works with any SmartMedia card up to 64MB in size.

64MB is the largest smart card you can put in a rio. Also ensure that it is 3.3v and not 5v.

also ensure u have the latest firmware update - otherwise it won't recognize 64mb cards..only 32...

So this Smart Media would be ok then?

If so, then it seems like a really good deal....RIO 500 w/128MB of total memory (64MB built-in and 64MB Smart Media card).

No reason why that shouldn't work. That's so cheap! If the worse comes to the worse you can just return it.

Do you think there will be updated firmware for a 128mb smart media soon? How long have 128's been out?

No. SonicBlue quit making firmware updates as far as I can tell with the 64MB smartmedia cards.

Yeah I think virge is right on this one. It was hassle enough getting a 64MB firmware update out of them! Many internet petitions and nagging emails and about a year!
