Rings thru metal detectors

Need to hide a certain ring from my g/f till we get to our location. Will it set off the metal detector at the airport? It's a platinum band... I plan to wrap it up in clear plastic just in case they make me take it out of the carry-on bag... she won't be able to make out what it is right away.

Put it in your carry on before you go through the metal detector and take it out on the other side. Don't risk them examining it in front of her.
