Amazon handed Ring doorbell footage to police without user consent
Amazon has provided Ring doorbell footage to law enforcement 11 times this year without the user's permission. The disclosure came in a letter Amazon sent on July 1 and was made public on Wednesday by U.S. Sen. Edward Markey.


Sounds like at least 11 people are owed some Bezos Bucks.

Yeah, my realtor gifted me a Ring doorbell after we closed on the house. I had a lot of concerns about it, so I left it in the box until I went out of town for a bit... then I set it up and had it inside, so I could use it to check in on the cats while I was gone.

This is why I don't buy any Internet of Things shit that connects to an online portal/website.

I have a couple cameras, but they are 100% lan only. I do have a Honeywell thermostat that uses a portal, but it isn't one that tries to "learn" me.

Most of these devices don't care about privacy. I hate that it's getting harder to find stand alone POE wired cameras now days, it's all this fruity gadget crap. You can find them but you need to filter through all the cloud based crap.
