ringing noise coming from my system

When my x2 3800+@2.6Ghz is being stressed I hear I ringing noise on and off coming from my PC. I don't know what it is. Figured it had to be my Enermax 480watt PSU as I've never heard a CPU making this kind of noise.

Any ideas?

Well, how about you open it up and stop a couple of fans with a pen for a second or too and see if this fixes it.

I stopped the CPU fan and mobo fan a week ago and still the same. Thats the first thing I thought. I figured things heating up fans are gonna get faster and make more noise. I have a fan controller and turned off all my case fans. Still the same.

As for if its coming from inside the box yeah it is. I unplugged my speakers when I first starting hearing it. It didn't do it with my 3000+@2.4ghz. Its not a huge deal I guess since like I said it only does it off/on when my system is being worked hard. It gets louder when I take the side off my case and stick my ear next to the components. But I can't pinpoint where its coming from exactly because its so lite sounding.

If you have a CRT monitor, likely that is causing the ringing sound. As for a solution, at this point you are better off buying a new monitor seeing you can get CRT's for cheap now.

Let me know if this solves the problem!

Isolate the noise. Figure out what's making it. Then post it here. Dying caps will make a ringing noise, could be on the mother board, PSU, or anything with a PCB (almost).

Capacitors and inductors on the motherboard (part of the power supply circuitry for the CPU) can make this noise and it's not abnormal.

Well I will continue to try and hunt the source out. All I know is it didn't do this with my 3000+. It did it as soon as I put the 3800 x2 in and was stress testing it.

That is most likely it. My mobo has done that from day one, sometimes it is more of a buzz than a ringing but same idea. The loudness and tone is dependent on what the computer is doing. Annoying but nothing I can do about it, o well.
