I like my phone to be one solid piece, not a fan of sliders.

It took me all of one week to get used to virtual keyboards. I haven't looked back since.

You do get the advantage of the virtual keyboard not eating up a ton of screen real estate.

For me, I don't want to just "get used" to a keyboard. I have a Samsung Focus, I've had a Vibrant and a HD2, I was capable of typing on them. Its not that I'm unable to use the phone. I just don't like it. I hate the experience of the virtual keyboard. I can use one...but given the choice? I'll go with a real keyboard every time.

At the cost of your phone being thicker and more flimsy (solid piece > multiple moving pieces).

I didn't want to either at first, but I did. Now I hate having to type on any phone that doesn't have slide style typing.

I wouldnt mind a bit thicker. I found the SGS2 too thin for my hands, I bought the Samsung extended battery for it and it sits a bit better now but I could live with another mm or so there.

I havent used a slider for awhile but I remember using a few sturdy feeling ones.

That's what I like about the SGS2, because I use a case :p

Now that phones are getting so thin I can use a case without it feeling as bulky as they did in the past.

What would that even look like?! I still like the slider formfactors. Best of both worlds, imho. They could also try something like the Droid Pro. AFAIK, the Blackberries with keyboards don't have touch screens, right?

Yeah I dunno. I love the keyboard on the Bold, and this is from someone who loves the screen of the iPhone4 (which I had first). I didn't think I'd ever prefer a physical keyboard over a virtual one for the screen reason, but I now see it has it's uses.

Yeah I have played with a torch and I don't like the slider. If there was a way I could have a physical keyboard some times and a full screen the others, I'd be all over it. I carry an iPhone4 and a 9900 for this reason. Not a fan of sliders so pasting them back to back is the only other option I can see. Don't even know if it'd work...

I had the BB Torch for a little bit and I didn't like it either. It was too cramped, for starters. Also the slider mechanism wasn't very good. Didn't feel very solid, and it was difficult to do with one hand which made it a hassle. The Venue Pro really was a whole different world. Wider keyboard, no annoying lip on the edge of the keyboard, easier to open/close, smoother, more solid motion...that's how all sliders should be.

Actually the Pre 3 looked like a decent phone, its a shame they killed it off. However I was more thinking something like this:

dell-venue-pro1.jpg

4+" screen, spacious keyboard, etc

:awe: That might be the first Dell I've ever wanted in my entire life.

But sadly, outdated at this point. And no CDMA.
