Hi,
I was wondering with the release of the new quad core processors in November and memory prices very high atm, when is the right time to buy a new core duo machine? I was thinking to wait after Christmas, maybe January/February.

Thanks

Steve

IMO, there is no right time, since computer hardware are updated every 6 months or so, correct me if i'm wrong. What you see now as being the best hardware won't last long as better stuff will be coming along the way...also within the 6 months, prices wil surely change

The right time is when you have the money to do it. Speculating on release dates and pricing is fruitless IMO, unless there is concrete evidence things will play out as rumoured (ie. when the AMD price drops occurred).

Yeh, I agree. The right time to buy a PC is when your needs change and you have to upgrade. For example, your PC is getting too old to play the latest video games or run the latest software. Sometimes all you have to do in that case is upgrade one of your components, though (video card, for example...or CPU).

Just remember that whatever you buy now that is the latest and greatest will be replaced by something better within about 9 months. So, there's really no way to keep ahead of the curve. If you keep trying to time the market, you'll never buy anything. Just buy the best you can afford now and enjoy it. Chances are it will be a good system for at least two years or so...maybe longer depending upon what you're using it for.

If you're buy a whole pre-build system, I would suggest waiting until they offer vista systems (or vouchers). It would stink to buy a system now (vista-ready) and have to pay to get a vista upgrade a few months later.

that would be assuming you even want to run vista....
