Yesterday, my cousin and I replace a bad right front hub/bearing on my2004 Pontiac Grand Am with an automatic transmission and 2.2L inline 4 cylinder. After driving it around for like 10mins or so, the right front started to make this high pitch noise when you turn the wheel to the right. And sometimes it'll do it go straight too. This noise will happen at 5mph+ When the car is cold it won't make the noise, but once the drivetrain parts start to heat up, the right front will make that high pitch noise. A metal on metal noise I would say. I had this problem before when my dad and I looked at the right front wheel bearing on my old 99 GMC Sonoma. When we did that, i don't think we put the center axle back on at the correct torque. So for my car, having the center axle nut to loose or to tight cause the problem I am having? My cousin and I read these instructions on the internet about replacing the front hub/wheel bearing, it said to torque the center axle nut down to 118 ft lbs, which we did do. Any suggestions? Oh and on the box my new wheel hub/bearing assembly came in, it said not exceed 180 ft lbs of torque.

Make sure the spindle nut is tightened down all the way.

edit:
And I mean recheck it now that everything has moved around.

You did properly pack the bearing with the proper grease before putting it on, right? The grease it's shipped with is to prevent rust only - it's not designed to lube the bearing while in use.

the front wheel bearing on m car is a sealed bearing.. the wheel bearing are built right into the hub/spindle assembly.
