Right-click, explorer crashes

Here's what's happening:

I right-click on an executable, or a shortcut to an executable, and explorer.exe crashes, my taskbar disappears, and a few seconds later, it comes back, and so does explorer. I've done absolutely everything short of reformatting. I have scanned with Ad-Aware, HijackThis, CWShredder, and Norton AV 2004. I have also replaced the explorer.exe and shell32.dll from the DLLCACHE folder with still no luck. I have also deleted the file amshellext.dll which was suggested the problem, again with no results. I am currently in the process of uninstalling SP2 hotfixes from my Add/Remove Programs list.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

//EDIT: As a curious side note, I am unable to download either HijackThis or CWShredder. When I try, it says "cannot write to disk". However, if I rename them, they work fine (I have another computer).

Sounds like something doesn't like those two programs - not good. But let's look at the 1st problem 1st. Have you installed anything that changes how Explorer works or that adds a context menu to Explorer recently? Rar, Zip, image programs....DrDivx .... --- anything?

What does "also deleted amshellext.dll which was suggested the problem" mean?

I suggest keeping all Windows hotfixes.
