I have a bunch of raw .AVI files from a video editing project I did and I would like to keep backups of the unedited video, but compress it to save space (quality won't be as important). I'm thinking I'll use Divx, Xvid or WMV, not sure yet.

I'm just wondering if there's a nice batch convert tool available for video.

Thanks.

Windows Media Encoder for WMV is easy to use and gives pretty good compression though I'm not positive it allows for batch jobs.

I do know that VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod can do divx/xvid (just install the codec and you pick) with a few clicks and then use the job control for batch jobs. I do it quite often. It does take some VirtualDub interface know-how but there are guides on videohelp.com or doom9.org. For audio, don't forget to install the mp3 codec... (I usually just grab KLite Codec Pack for all the codecs in 1 install).

If you hit me up via AIM (rh71) during business hours I could walk you through using VirtualDubMod rather quickly.
