Rift: Planes of Telara

The game looks set to launch on March 1 and beta testers - of whom, unfortunately, I am not one - have given it pretty good overall feedback. Although I "retired" from MMOs for more than a year (basically stopped playing all MMOs after my WoW guild finished clearing Ulduar), I'm getting interested in playing this for a few months.

Has anyone here tried it out? The "it's a WoW clone" rap doesn't bother me; I liked WoW just fine but am too burned out to go back for Cataclysm.

I'd be particularly interested in how it runs on older machines. I badly need to upgrade: my current rig is a C2D E6600 / GTS8800 640mb (G80 generation - natch!) combo at 1680x1050 res. If Rift will run on my rig even at lower settings, I might try harder to get a beta key and give the game a shot.

I wouldn't call your rig old unless you're running a Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM and a 6600 GT. Despite your rig being old compared to many of us hardware enthusiasts, it's still plenty capable today. I'd probably suggest seeing if you can overclock to 3.0GHz or so for an extra boost.

Yes i've tried it out, no i will not play it again.

Its very boring. The combat feels sluggish, uneventfull. The concept of rifts are pretty nice in theory, but they are not random, they have set locations around world they happen. I got invite to 2nd beta event but not going to bother.

Pffft - feel like a total newb for missing that. I did search the forums ahead of time, but was specific for Planes of Telara. Oh well.

PS. I figured on this forum someone would catch the Avogadro reference.

I'll give that a try. At the very least it will be good practice/confidence building for overclocking a Sandy Bridge CPU when I do upgrade.

As for Rift, I'll just see what everyone has to say about the Beta 4 event this weekend.

I tried it, pretty typical mmo I did like how the npc's were talking and doing stuff in the background didn't do much to excite me though.
