Woo hoo! Looks like I'll get a day off of work, too. It's supposed to pass within 60 miles of the island (see sig) with sustained winds of 125 knots and gusts up to 150 knots. Excellent!

You see, I'm not worried at all since my home is built with reinforced concrete and shatterproof windows protected by aluminum bars. The Japanese know how to build to withstand some measely wind and rain. Typhoons are fun around here!

The best part is watching the Japanese COMPLETELY ignoring them, to the point of putting their laundry out right before the storm hits. :D

Do you have enough beer and food in stock to last for three days?

Our rent (roughly 1400 sq ft) is $1500 or so per month, paid for by the US Air Force. Housing prices here are insane, with houses fairly commonly costing $1 million. The mortgages are ridiculously long as a result, and I have heard that they even pass mortgages down to the next generation. I don't know how common that is.

Won't need it for that long. It'll probably be bad for one day, but like I mentioned, the Japanese don't pay the storms any mind at all so replenishing food off-base is easy. It's the folks who live on-base that are stuck in their homes (and much more likely to lose power and water).

You live in NY. There are no tornados, nor hurricanes there.
