I will probably have my roof re-done at the end of summer and was thinking about getting some new attic vents installed...Came across ridge vents while looking at attic vents....

Anyone here have these on their roof? any feedback on them?

I currently have 5 of these vents on my roof...

Would like to upgrade my attic ventilation when I get my roof done...either a ridge vent (haven't got any quotes yet) or solar power vents (about $250 each before installation) seem like my best two options...

Wind powered turbine vents are about $50 each...I would rather have something that doesnt rely soley on wind to keep my attic space cooled though...

Excellent question! I need to add something to my roof and I was considering starting with a gable fan first (since I can install that myself "easily" ) My dad just got ridge vents put in on our house in Texas (replaced a powered attic fan) and he says it works great.

Got them. Good, imo. Adequate insulation, better.

Edit: Soffits need to be clear for air flow.

Edit2: May also depend on the part of the country you live in.

Like Highland said ridge vents are half of the equation. You need both adequate soffit and ridge vents both. Don't get the ridge vent that looks like scrunge pad material because it is easily compressed. I had this stuff ripped out and new hard plastic ridge vent installed. I think it cost me $240 for the tear out and replace.

I'm in North Dallas...I have soffit vents already but probably need to check to see if they are sufficient...definitely need something that can handle the hail storms we get during the summer...

They are also easily blocked by over zealous insulation installers. When I had my insulation brought up to R49 I also had them install baffles so as to insure the soffits wouldn't become blocked. The baffles are cheap and easily installed.
