Riddle me this

HYPO:

Lets say it is a dream of yours and your SO to go to the same school (or job). You are denied and your SO is accepted. You can petition for review. If in the review you can show you are more qualified than someone else who has been admitted, you take their place. The only person who you are more qualified than is your SO. Do you go thru with the review?

what would be the point of that?

you go and SO doesnt?

if your original intention was to go to a school together, then what would be the point of replacing your SO at that school (unless you intend to break up with her)
The best alternative i can think is to apply to another school

please explain why...

If Im better qualified Im going to have a better chance fending for myself elsewhere, and I put myself and my SO on equal platters, therefore no reason to put a less qualified portion of my family in a tougher situation.

what if you cant? assume both of you have been rejected from all other school

Uh, no. If it was my dream for us to both be there, it would be no different if she was there and I wasn't, or vice versa.

this reminds me of a story my dad told me

two friends are chatting, and one asks the other.
"What would you do if you saw a bear in the woods, and it was about to attack you?"
The other friend replies, "I would shoot it"
The first friend then says, "What if you don't have a gun?"
"I guess I would use my knife"
"What if you dont have a knife?"
"I would find a really big boulder and get on it."
"What if there are no boulders?"
"I would climb the nearest tree."
"What if there are no trees?"
Finally the one friend says
"So who's side are you on? The bear's or mine?"

Now i dont really know how to put the moral into words, but i still remember this story after all these years, and you reminded me of it.

So there 😛
