Don't mean to thread crap, but I quit using these after running the Nero quality test on these Ritek disks (the results were extremely bad). This prompted me to check some of my DVD movie copies made with these disks. About every 5th disk failed to finish a DVD Decripter run. Same with DVD Shrink. In other words they could not be copied.

Welp, for those who goto to Costco stores...

This week, at least in the Seattle area, Buy-1 get-1 +r or -r printable TDK spindles. $42.99 per spindle, so after coupon its $0.215 each. Many stores have the coupon at checkout so don't worry if you dont' have a coupon.... you can always say, "Rats, I forgot my coupon" and hope the sales person will give you the discount.

I've been using the +R TDK's without issue using a Plextor 8x, or two different 16x NEC burners.

Word of note if doing direct printing on DVD's... get a can of satin clear coat from the hardware store and spray them after printing. My Canon IP4000's ink (OEM) will smear even after it dries... so i've been printing batches and clear coating them...really nice.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that these are NOT coated to the hub for printing.... but thats fine with me.

Too bad no Costco near me.
Couldn't painting them eat the plastic, if not immediately, then after a few years?
So some do have printable hubs?

Also, without painting them, will the ink smear forever? Wonder if you could use a hair dryer to cure the ink?

Welp my experience with the few types of printable DVD's I've experienced....using my Canon IP4000 printer are as follows.

-Ink dries within a minute...wont smear if touched/rubbed with a dry finger
-Just breath on your finger, and if you rub the DVD it will smear.

I tried using a hairdryer or putting on a lampshade to "cook" it... didn't help, and I'm pretty sure prolonged heat exposure is bad on the disc.

Far as the satin clear coat spray paint... I doubt it will hurt the media as you're not spraying the reading side. The only plastic part being exposed to the spray is the hub and outter clear edge.

I made a whole series of DVD movie backups of kids movies for my nephews to use... so far they're holding up very well despite the scatches that are accumulating on the read-side. My DVD player is very forgiving and can handle dammage real well, so YMMV.

My $.02

hairspray is NOT waterproof....do not even consider using it.

Get a spray can of clear coat... either satin or glossy... I recommend satin. $3.09 at my local Lowes

I guess enamel paint won't hurt plastic since Krylon says their general purpose works on plastic, though they do also make a paint for plastic (Fusion) for some reason. I think plastic hobby models are mainly painted with enamels aren't they?
I know laquer spray paint is stronger and I thought it would eat plastic, but someone said this about painting their plastic PC case:
You should buy laquer spray paint, and it will NOT eat the plastic as long as you do medium to light coatings of the paint at a time, then let it dry, then apply another coating, if you apply to much it stays wet and then could eat the plastic, but as long as you do modest coatings you will have no problem

Any other feedback on this issue?

Is it only certain types of ink or certain CDs?

Many people have Ridata G5 trouble, including me. It burns good, scans good; but 6 months later, gone bad! I'm expecting more complaint from friends and my clints, by far, 5 out of 70; I can see when time's up, more complaint's in. I got them from Supermediastore and Shop4tech. Searched Videohelp and Cdfreaks, I know I am not alone.

Ridata media has a gone to crap. It used to be good 2-3 years ago, but Riteks these days just... don't do too well. And why should it when mcc and ty media are so cheap. How can they compete?

I quit messing with these as well. I have had my share of poor media and now I bite the bullet and just get the Ty's. 82.99 for 200 hub printable 8x -r with free shipping at Supermedia. .14 more per disc, but in my world it is worth it.
