assuming they both have the same specs, is Ricoh better than HP? if so, in what areas?

thanks in advance

This totaly depends on the purpose and duty cycles of the machines, Ricoh is more known for their higher ppm / copier / fax devices than their printers, in most cases its just some type of copier w/ a print module and as such they just kinda do printing as an after thought but cost per page tends to be better.

edit: just look for the best price performance that fits your needs, generaly anything above 40ppm and your gonna be better off w/ a copier w/ a print module than just a printer just due to the costs involved.

the ricoh one has a ppm of just 15 and the total monthly volume for the application will be probably <5000/mo. i don't know why the ricoh was suggest as just their copier/fax model is ~$1500 and the one with the print module is ~$2000.

i could get a decent copier/fax/printer from hp for ~$600 with a higher ppm easily.

i was just wondering if the ricoh stuff was just that good? i have always bought hp laser printers beginning with the 4 series about 8yrs ago and they have all lasted me a long time. i was thinking for this person one of the laser printer/fax/copiers and then something like a 1320 and still be ~$1000 for the two.

w/out specific models I can't give any really meaningfull comparisons but based on what you described I'd say the vast majority of Ricoh products are going to be overkill, personaly for the duty cycle you proposed I'd sugget getting an HP 4XXX series printer used and some form of fax/copier and just have 2 seperate machines. The cost per page tends to be quite a bit better w/ a high volume copier / all in one machine but for what it would cost it just not worth looking into for those page volumes.

thanks for the information, i think a ricoh 1515 series copier/fax was recommended along with a hp1320, and the sad part is that more items will be printed than copied......weird suggestions....

Kinda ignorant here but I note teh recent PC mag had some sort of a blurb about some ricol inkjet
with super impressive speed. They mumbled something about it using a gel rather than liquid ink,
that it had a printhead on the machine, and a list price of about $450.

But that is probably not the model being debated in this thread.

But am interested in any who can shed some light on this new inkjet choice from ricol.
