Ricky is great...I gotta give respect to a guy for doing what he did. Not for the WAY he did it, but WHY he did. He wasn't happy, I don't understand why some people think its selfish to do what you need to do to be happy. He didn't like his job so he quit. Sure, maybe he didn't give the proper "two weeks notice" but he's also giving up a ton of stinking money and fame, to do what HE WANTS TO DO. If that entails smoking then so be it, it's not harming anyone other than himself.

He seems like a real peaceful guy, not a football player. He's just eccentric. (sp?)

Is it possible that he quit rather than going through the humiliation that would have occurred if he tried to meet the guidelines.

Quiting when asked to take a test sounds like a cop-out. If your scenario is correct, then why did he not announce his intent to quit before he was asked for testing, not afterward.

He can quit anytime, however, he should not be expected to be rewarded for breaking his contract. :disgust:

Why are the owners "cutting" him. Because he choses to not play.

I am not seeing what is the problem?

The points seem to be that.
He has failed drug testing previously.
He has been requested to submit to testing and is refusing to submit another test.
He knew that if he refused, he can not play.

If he fails the test, it is up to the league to determine the punishment, he seems to not want to accept any punishment.

Please enlighten me on what facts that I have wrong and/or missing.

He's not getting rewarded, nor is he asking to. Figure out what's going on before making random claims. he doesn't want to get paid for this year. The team is trying to get money they paid him, for services already completed, back, which is shady.

Because you are a moron who needs to be b|tch slapped to try to get some common sense in your head. How is he a POS? What did he do? Did he kill someone, rape someone, beat his wife, ANYTHING BAD? No, he just wanted to smoke weed and not play football. Yeah, a real big POS 😕😱 <---This means I'm confused and embarassed at what a fvcking moron you are

Your age is showing. Anyone who breaks a contract is a POS. Anyone who breaks a contract because his love for a drug is > * = bigger POS. Anyone who defends said POS in an overly emotional and feminine manner, such as yourself, = POS. BTW, Ricky told me to tell you he wants his jockstrap back.

I fail to see how. The team can opt out of his contract. Are they POS for that? Are you saying you should never be allowed to quit your job. You (SP33Demon) still haven't made a point other than he's a POS and yet I'm the one showing my age. Please, I've at least made points to go along with my insults. All you have is insults, and a pathetic, ignorant fan base to cheer you on. Why can't he quit? Give me a reason.

If the Dolphins say no b/c they need him, then he can't quit. Get it now? Why even bother having a contract if you're just going to quit halfway through. That's a btch move, especially for the reasons why he quit. I'm beginning to see a correlation between your beliefs and why you were just laid off your job.

The correlation between your reading comprehension and your intelligence is astounding. It's not like I'm getting fired, the company has no more money. As you said, "If the Dolphins say no b/c they need him, then he can't quit." Well, if they tried to cut him, could he say, "No, b/c I need the money and want to play for you"? Of course not, and that's why it's bullsh|t. They can cut him at any point, but he can't quit at any point? And his reasons are fine, he doesn't want to play anymore and he wants to smoke weed. He's doing what he wants instead of living a miserable life doing what others want him to do.

Keep defending the pothead quitter. That's why he wanted to come back all of a sudden, b/c oh no, I'm going to lose all of my money! Just give it up already. You and Ricky have have been pwned and lost.

If you actually looked at what all the comeback was about, it was his lawyer and agent saying he wanted to come back. He never once himself said he did. Now why would his lawyer and agent want him to do that....ohhh, so they could make a bunch more money off of him. He never wanted to come back, only the people who would make money off of him did. You're "pwning" is impressive. No wait, I mean weak. And you can't really call your own pwn. It's like laughing at your own joke, everyone thinks you're a moron. AND YOU STILL HAVE NOT SAID WHY IT IS OK FOR THE TEAM TO CUT HIM AT NEAR TO NO COST, BUT IT'S NOT OK FOR HIM TO QUIT. Please, answer that question instead of dodging around it again. I bolded it and capitalized it in hopes you won't miss it this time.

I fail to see how.

Of course you would fail to see how. You were the one bearing the brunt of the putdowns.

Anyway, Ricky is a POS for the way he quit. Sure, he is happy and that is the most important thing. He does not define himself as a football player. Fine. But why did he wait until the 11th hour to decide this? He attended his team?s meetings right up until he retired and did not give any indication that he intended to leave the game. That?s why he is a POS. Now one cares what he does, and I?m sure Sp33Demon doesn?t care, but you will find very few people who think Ricky is ?great? besides you. I don?t think he is great, I think your standards are pretty low.

Your argument about the contracts is lacking. That?s why NFL players get a signing bonus, that?s generally the only part of the contract that is guaranteed. So player X gets a 5 year deal but in reality only the first 2 seasons might be guaranteed. But if a team does decide to cut him he always gets to keep his bonus. On the other hand, if a player quits then he has to pay back part of the bonus.

Looks like somebody is in denial that the "Longhorn" he idolized is now a POS quitter. Better sell all those rookie cards on Ebay... maybe you can use the money to pick up an "O-Z". *snicker*

He has disgraced your alma mater.

See, this is the intelligent argument I was hoping for. You make good points in an intelligent manner. I still don't think he's a POS for quitting. He could have done it at a better time, but I believe that he was under a lot of pressure to continue playing from various people (lawyers, agent, etc.) and that led to the late notice. I think he's great for following his heart, not for quitting when he did. What he did wasn't easy and I think more people should follow his example, but obviously using better timing.

As for the contract situation. I don't think he needs to pay them back any money. The team signs a player and the player has to implement safeguards in the form of a signing bonus. This way they are guaranteed a certain amount of money no matter what happens. The team needs to protect itself by not giving too large a bonus, in case of situations like this or where they want to cut someone. Buyer beware, the team is buying a player knowing something like this might happen. Everyone knew Ricky was different from most players, and they took that risk, and it blew up in their face. Too bad.

See, you're just anti-drugs. If you're letting that influence your decision, you're just ignorant. If you refuse to answer my questions or make any logical points what are you doing here?

I wouldn't say he's selfish. In fact it's the opposite.

everyone else wants him to play, but he doesn't. They're being selfish by expecting Ricky to live his life the way they want him to so he can entertain them. Also, he passed on all the money so he could live a more humble life.

Personally I think he's depressed because he's gay.
