Hasnt played one minute in the nba and I don't like him. Where does he get his ego from? This kid thinks he is the next Mj or something.

Wow, you'd think marketing companies would learn after what happened with Brady Quinn ...

Not possible. He's an excellent distributer and a scrappy and very quick defender. His shot will get better, probably never will be great tho. He'll be a legit point guard...we'll see if he ever gets to allstar status tho.

i think he's gonna be good but i still think he's a douche for now wanting to play for the team that drafted him.

after making less than 100k salary last year, would you pay 5.7 million dollars out of your own pocket to play for Minnesota?

I'm not aware that was the case in a nutshell. He has a $6m buyout (altho he knew that and it was indeed his choice to enter the draft this year...) If you want a bigger douche, look for a GM that took 4 point guards in the draft.

He's just going to be a rich man's Jason Williams, unless his shooting and/or defense improves tremendously. Right now the knock on him is that he's slow and can't shoot. A point guard has to do at least 2 of the following extremely well to be a star: pass, shoot, defend, or be fast. Right now all we know is that he can pass.

I watched many olympic games, and Rubio is very quick and loves to play the passing lanes. His knock is his strength and poor shooting, but he is aggressive and has all the right instincts for a point guard.

if he was coming to minnesota, i'm pretty sure they'd try to work something out wiht the buyout.

The most an nba team can contribute towards a european buyout is $500k. With a $4m first year salary, most likely the buyout would come from a sponsor like nike, directly or indirectly.

The first year salary for the 5th draft pick for the 2009-2010 season is 2.724 million before taxes

$6M is this year's mid level exception. If Rubio's any type of player at all, he'll be making far more than that by the time he signs his first non-rookie contract. If I were him and I had faith in my skills, I'd want to get my rookie contract out of the way as soon as possible so I can start earning that "real" NBA money. However, if I were a fraud, I'd probably be more concerned with milking as much money as I can from every contract (ie JaMarcus Russell).

Well, Jason Kidd was only good at passing and he was a star.

Are you kidding? Jason Kidd was a lock down defender in his hey day who could guard both the 1 and 2. Not to mention a perennial league leader in steals.

Ricky held his own on defense against team USA at the age of 17

That's what a quick google will do (5 paragraphs down.)

Your number sounds about right tho, $4m is probably closer to what the #1 pick gets.
