Stimulus signs make sense to me. I want to know what my taxpayer funds are paying for. I don't think we have enough of that kind of transparency.
Putting official's name on things doesn't make sense to me, it's basically there for free publicity for that one person.

I think the real purpose of the stimulus signs is to counter the expected misinformation from opponents of the bill, namely, that nothing is actually being built with stimulus money. It's been tried on this board many times IIRC, for example.

What is the purpose of putting the official's name on them?

I agree with you 100% on this issue.

Of all the things Rick Scott has been guilty of, accused of and suspected of... this $9K is the least egregious.

Every state I've lived in has done this. Heck we had a Republican governor resign a few years back (on his way to prison on corruption charges) and his successor had her name on the signs within a week or two (about the only thing of substance she ever did).

It's a silly waste of money purely for political ego, but trivial. Kudos to Florida's prior governors for not doing this.

Where's that phrase that liberals love to use, oh yeah, there it is: "Faux Outrage"

Because that's the fucking point of stimulus, to stimulate the economy, and get people's confidence up so the economy can get moving again.

This is $9k in a whole god damn state. For me $1000 is a lot of money, but 9 times that isn't a lot for the state of Florida. It pays for a few sign manufacturing workers to work for a couple weeks though.

Your tax dollars are paying for signs telling you how your tax dollars are being spent. There is an entire chapter in the Encyclopedia of Stupidity dedicated to scenarios like this.

There are massive amounts of money interested parties who want to take money from the public can spend to try to shift public opinion their way.

The government isn't really allowed to hire ad agencies much to counter this - I'm fine with the 'stimulus signs' to help give some visibility to the use of tax dollars.

I'm a bit disgusted with the excessive use of politicians' names, though.

In CT-us being notoriously cheap New Englanders after all-they won't do a whole new sign. Instead there will be a incredibly old and faded "Welcome To Connecticut" sign with a new stickie type attachment on it with the current governor's name. Looks pretty tacky but then I guess they can claim they are saving us money (by not wasting as much).
