They just announced cuts to the Florida state university system. Which in this case, the school I currently attend to [USF], is facing a state budget cut of up to 58% [compared to ~20% for other schools].

NO!!!!! Let's not fucking increase taxes on alcohol and tabbaco! NOOOO, let's not fucking increase taxes on Casinos!!! NOOOOO, let's fucking cut the educational budget so that schools are further forced to increase tuition! So less people can afford to get a secondary education! So that more people drop out because they can't fucking afford it. I'm already spending 20k/YEAR as a freshman.

Someone PLEASE impeach these SOBS.

Here is a good editorial to read up on if you want a scoop on the situation:

My hate might have been misfired, maybe it's not entirely Rick Scott's fault.

My advice to you is to not post something in here that affects you personally to such a severe degree. I also recommend you not post anything that questions the eternal wisdom of Rick Scott or the Florida Senate... because, as evidenced by the replies of many in this thread, they're always right and you're always wrong.

I'm stuck at my job, watching it live. I work for the university IT department
Maybe you should look at it from a different perspective: you're getting paid by taxpayers to sit on your ass, watch TV, and post an online complaint about how taxpayers might not subsidize your tuition as much next year.

And again you're doing it wrong. 3-monitor setups are a wonderful thing.

You are pissed because you think you are entitled to someone else's money to give you an education, all the while using state resources and being paid wages by the state to complain about how unfair it is that you would not receive all of this state money. You're a wanker.

The whole problem with the cost of education is the same reason the medical field cost so much. As someone back in the 1940s put it when asked about if they should raise tuition cost, " it is education, people expect it to cost".

It isn't that the cost is justified , it is the mentality that it is supposed to be expensive that allows it to cost what it does. The same for medicine cost, the cost isn't justified and the companies know it, but they know people expect it to not be cheap so they can get away with it.

Consider if I was selling a book on how to learn electronics for $5, I can sell it for that price to book stores, OR, I can sell it to a college and charge $200 , because now it is magically more valuable because it is a college book.

You see it every day with things that have professional, enterprise, industrial, etc labels, often there is no difference but the organizations that buy the product. Colleges over spend every day of the week because of that mentality.

He is 100% right.

It is exactly what Republicans want for the country and getting.

Americans no longer need secondary education since the jobs were sent overseas.

If for some reason you have the desire for one of the jobs that went overseas that requires the advanced education you simply move to the country where the jobs went and get your education there.

When are you packing and leaving?

Conservatives want the world to be run by moral ideology and beliefs, not science and logic.

No education for you. We don't want no intellectuals.

Keep being ignorant. This issue is beyond me, it expands to over 100,000 people that are affiliated with the university.

Based on the ignorance of your post, I don't think Democrats have any interest in intellectualism either.

so, why are 100,000 people entitled to have their college education funded on the backs of taxpayers?

institutions need to get their own spending and runaway tuition hikes under control before begging tax payers for more money imo.

They hike the tuition because the tax payer is not going to fund wasteful projects.

And the students pay for the hikes because of the status that the school provides and the availability of money to cover the tuition.
