Last time I checked, Texas was ruled by fossil fuel interests, and her politicians reflect that. Perry will attempt to advance the interests of those who've advanced his own, shamelessly & without regret or reflection.
On the Right, the answer to energy problems is simply to obtain more so we can use more so that profits will be larger. And that always has to be accomplished by large scale corporate interests.
What it amounts to is that Conservatives don't believe in conservation, at all. They believe in ever increasing consumption.
And they're always going on about robbing our grandchildren wrt fiscal and monetary issues, even as they propose leaving nothing behind in terms of natural resources.
The whole notion that conservation & efficient use could be part of an honest energy plan are simply rejected out of hand. We don't want cars that get 40mpg, we want giant SUV's & pickups that get 15mpg, & we want lots of cheap gas so we can commute hours each way, spend more time & money driving to the new trendy mall on the other side of the metro area than we'll spend when we get there. We don't want energy efficient homes, we want 4000 sq ft edifices in the hinterlands where rooms we haven't even been in for weeks or months are kept at a perfect 72F in case we do. We don't want xeriscaped yards, we want lush expanses of bluegrass & thirsty shrubbery maintained by Mexican gardeners paid under the table.
Every Republican politician from Reagan forward has pandered to our irrational desires, and Perry is no different. Allegations of job creation are just a sideshow to that.
