And now Slick Rick will be hitting up the Federal government for money to help. Cut, cut, cut and "I want to make the federal government inconsequential in your lives". Do you really want to nominate this tard?

Perry's fanatical opposition to raising revenue to close Texas' budget gap meant that his allies in the Legislature had to find creative ways to cut costs, like cutting $34 million over the next two years from the agency that fights wildfires. The Forest Service is mostly volunteer-based, and the cuts will largely affect the state's assistance grants to buy volunteer departments the tools they need to fight fires.

While I most certainly don't wish any harm on the innocent people in the path of these fires, I will admit to a bit of satisfaction watching the Republicans in charge of Texas freak out about the incredibly obvious and easily forseeable consequences of their policies.

Don't worry... Perry is just the latest flavor of the month. Just like Trump and the loony bitch. Both of them are gone or on their way out. Perry will be next to plummet as more people see his true colors.

Ironically Perry's policy of praying for rain resulted in a tropical storm with tons of water coming into the Gulf of Mexico and veering north.

Maybe spend less time bragging you know what God wants and properly fund the Park Service

Budget cuts had no effect whatsoever on the fire fighting ability here in Texas.

Who is going to pay for it? You avoided the topic. Oh wait the feds... the very funding he wants to cut out. If both got cut.. then who?

A man not willing to bankrupt his state, should be disqualified for that?

It's a fascinating line of thought you have. Probably along the lines of Spend Spend Spend! We don't need any more of that disease. Anyone not infected by that is fine by me.

The money is there for emergencies. Not every day is an emergency. You don't need an emergency budget 24/7/365. Unlike President Obama, not everyone has to bankrupt this country and its people.

Riiiiiiight!

That's why the state had to appropriate an emergency $61 million supplimental. Still not enough

This is my favorite part!!! He goes and begs the president for money!

Perry spoke with President Barack Obama on Wednesday, asking for an expanded disaster declaration to include fires that started in the state over the weekend. Perry also inquired if any Defense Department assets are available, Nashed said. The White House said the president pledged to assess new requests for help quickly and expressed condolences for deaths from the wildfires scarring Texas.

The way Fire Management Assistance Grants (FEMA) is that the recipient (state or local government) has to burn through a certain percentage of their own wildfire fighting budget before qualifying. The program perversely rewards state and local governments which cut their own budgets to more quickly qualify for the grants.

Couple of flaws in your argument. In an emergency you can't go out and purchase equipment and supplies on the spot to handle it.

Second, assume your argument for a moment. If there is a short term large revenue requirement why not just send out a one time tax surcharge to Texas residents instead of asking the entire country to pay?

Nearly half of the federal government’s firefighting air tankers are siting idle at a California airport, grounded by the Obama administration in a contract dispute.

“We wanted to sit down with them and ask why it was canceled and find a quick resolution, but they didn’t want to talk about it. They just said, ‘We don’t want the airplanes, have a nice life,’

So, did Obama cause Texas to not have the firefighting capacity they should have, intentionally, so that Texas would burn, thus hurting Perry at the polls?
