Why do guys insist on putting these rediculosly large tail pipes on their rice rockets? Does it remind them of something..()O()
I guess theres a performance benfit, but why not try a dual pipe system?

It seems for the most part its simply for looks and volume. Thats the next issue.. Why do ricer boys insist on having these 'loud' cars? Why do you want your car to sound like its farting.. In my opinion, I think the low rumble that old muscle cars, or well made trucks put out, is the way to go.. That is, if you want your vehicle to make any noise at all.. I would like to have a nice quiet car, and a nice loud, rumbling truck.. I just cant stand that loud farting noise these ricers make though.

Grrr. I hate rice! :| </rant>

Dual pipe systems have absolutely no advantage unless the car actually has a dual exhaust system *such as the Acura TL*. Other then that, its still one pipe, but then hot air just comes out two ways.

I think they put it on because its seems "cool" and they just wanna be noticed. Dumbasses...

The noise is annoying, their car is nowhere as fast and worse of all, all the girls are going crazy over that big THING. :|

In my opinion, they are welcome to the girls who would go crazy over something like that. I have a girl in mind that is just perfect *in my opinion*. Of course, maybe a couple girls that go for the whole "suped up" car thing might look better, but then I don't think any of them are more beautiful then my girl.

By that statement, there would be no performance advantage to having the large pipe either.. So they are strickly for looks and volume..

No, that statement just says that a dual exhaust system will do sh1t over a single exhaust system on something like a Civic.

Getting a better exhaust system DOES give a performance increase. Putting a top of the line dual exhaust system in a Civic will give you the same benefit as putting in a top of the line single exhaust system that will cost less.

EDIT: Took out a line.

most ricers like it loud for reasons that are beyond me

when i get my exhaust it's gonna be the quietest one i can find

Just FYI, straight through exhuasts will give you like 7 horses, but they're so loud its' just not worth it

I would like to have a quiet car and I'd like it if ego-booster-Dodge-trucks and commercial vehicles didn't rumble much. A friend of mine lives behind a busy transit center where five or six different bus lines connect. I've slept over at his place in the past and it's hard to fall asleep when bus noise doesn't stop until 1AM. The Cummins ISC 280 engine sure rumbles alot. specs for ISC280 if you're into this kind of stuff.

These loud exhaust cars usually come with a all-bass/no actual sound stereo system though.

Bah, I say I hate them all.

Because they are too stupid to know better?

Muscle cars sound cool with a good exhaust system. Ricers sound stupid.

One of my friends a couple years ago restored a Vespa. He did a wonderful job and his paint job was sweet. It was a metalic copper with flames on the back in a lighter shade of copper so you could only see the flames when the light hit it right. Anyways he put the biggest muffler he could find on it. I think he just did it for the fun of it and so that it would be loud. You would always hear the ning ning ning ning before you saw him.

As if most ricers upgrade the exhaust system and don't just replace the tip....

That big exhaust pipe on these little POS is like stuffing a cotto salami in your rompers.

They look pretty sad when sitting next to a big block 69' ROADRUNNER ...meep meep...., of course, the little buggers are telling their big pipe infatuated squeeze that the Neon would kill it top end do to "modern engineering".

The guys are all just a bunch of posers who saw a *SUCKY* movie and think that their cars are now that fast - if they want cars that are actually capable of street racing the money they spend on a stupid tailpipe could go towards real engine mods, suspension upgrades, better wheels and tires, or lighter components.

Now the exhaust system I have on my crotch rocket is actually there for a purpose - weight reduction and power increase - and I probably have almost as much horsepower with 450 pounds as some of those Civics have, heh.

i guess ur referring to Fast & Furious, a sucky movie indeed. Now what 'guys' are you referring to.

to me, the movie was made for a mainstream audience, not the folks who were modifying their import cars during the early to mid 90's - who incidentally are not reflected in the movie.

it was these years that defined the import car aftermarket scene. the late 90's to the present, and the movie, and the target audience the movie was for, represent to me the 'me toos' and the 'posers' who left their mustangs or irocs and firebirds or their second hand maximas and sentras with the hammer rims.

I agree with you.

Unless it's a true dual-exhaust system there's no benefit - just a y-pipe connected to two mufflers - if anything it slows it down because of the extra weight.

I have an exhaust on my 200SX SE-R, and yea it made a difference. (I'm not a ricer BTW, that's the only thing I did to it, and I'm not even asian. :D ) It's a fully cat back system, and not just the tip, so it's obviously going to do something. I'm not sure how much horsepower it added ( 2 or 3 if I'm lucky), but where it made the most difference is, is in the power band. It moved the power band quite a bit. If I had to do it over again though, I wouldn't buy it. It was like 5 years ago when I bought it, and I was a lot younger and stupid. Now I just wish I didn't have it, because it gets annoying have asian guys pull up next to you, and look over like "Hey dood, wanna race?" One good thing, my exhaust doesn't give that bumble bee sound, it has a nice low, throaty rumble to it, so it sounds pretty decent.

Are you kidding, I love having my Dual 2 1/2" 5.3liter supercharged truck to be drown out by a 1.8liter 90HP POS

it has been said before that they are almost as dumb as the people who insists on cutting holes on their computer cases and stick a light inside...perhaps trying to attract the attention of that special unix-savy chic
