RIAA uses chat function of file sharing networks to warn file sharers

Link

In another effort to make people aware that they are breaking the copyright laws when they share copyrighted music on file sharing networks, the RIAA will be sending messages to those who are sharing copyrighted music on file sharing networks with a chat function. The warning will however be without consequences as the RIAA is not planning to link the nicknames to any personal information which should be provided by ISPs.

The new RIAA campaign will search for a list of several hundred popular songs and automatically send an instant message to any person who appears to be offering one of them, Sherman said. The group expects to send about 1 million of the messages per week.
"It appears that you are offering copyrighted music to others from your computer," the message will read in part. "Distributing or downloading copyrighted music on the Internet without permission from the copyright owner is ILLEGAL?When you offer music on these systems, you are not anonymous and you can easily be identified."

Would this message scare you and keep you away from sharing music ? I think I know the answer and it likely starts with a big N.

Learn to use the search function. This is a warning from the REPOST POLICE.
