Saw this over at avsforum and found it hard to believe. But given their track record it makes it easier to believe. I mean who else sues grandparents, people who don't even own computers, etc. The RIAA should just cease and desist, disband, blow theirselves up, whatever.

"In Michigan, in Warner Bros. v. Scantlebury, after learning that the defendant had passed away, the RIAA made a motion to stay the case for 60 days in order to allow the family time to "grieve", after which time they want to start taking depositions of the late Mr. Scantlebury's children."

cdbaby.com has good stuff

Of course - I like jazz - so that makes it a little easier. . .

I haven't heard anything but booming and screaming on mainstream radio for a few years now anyhow.

One day the RIAA will be hit with a huge class action lawsuit and their crap will stop. Right now they pick on the little guy and everyone bitches---but no one lifts a finger to help.

I think if I were the surviving family members of this guy, who was going to be sued by the RIAA, I'd have to give them the old 'slick willy' reply, over and over again.

I don't recall. I really don't recall that. That's not in my recollection.

So who exactly are they bringing suit against, if the guy is dead? This article doesn't really have any details.

Our present laws are stacked in favor of the RIAA, thanks to the politicians (of both parties) that they bought in Congress. The laws the RIAA sues under permits them to recover actual attorney fees and costs if they prevail, contrary to the vast majority of US lawsuits. It also provides for fixed damage provisions that greatly outweigh the actual damage incurred. The result is the RIAA litigation is sef perpetuating, they use the proceeds from one lawsuit to bring many more.
