RIAA pursing bill

ok so the logical next step for the riaa, which should be coming in the next 2 months or so, will be to lobby for file-swappers be put to death.

If they want us to pay for it, let us have something like apple's music "pay to download" songs... only in mp3 and in at least 256 bitrate.

I know I would pay for songs I like rather than ones that I'm forced to buy cd's to get one good song.

And so would others who would then share them on a p2p network.

p2p has killed fair use and the fact remains that like it or not distributing of copywrited matierals is a crime.

They just want to up the ante.

How would most of you feel if udentity theft became punishible by death?

now fo ask someone who has suffed from it.

the RIAA would rather not make a sale than sell you a song at $1 each.

In a series of hearings on Capitol Hill last spring, lawmakers condemned online song swapping and expressed concern the networks could spread computer viruses, create government security risks and allow children access to pornography.

Better shut down the whole internet then!

Come to think of it, maybe that's not such a bad idea. Somedays....

Canadians not affected by this? Every RIAA article I read I'm not sure if it affects the people up North.

It's a bill in the United States Congress, it can't affect Canadians...

I was just about to quote that exact same thing.

Better make email illegal too then. It's a classic virus medium, produces big security risks, and even little Johnny will get porn spam by just opening an email account.

Do they understand that no only are jails massively overcrowded, but the judicial system is already backlogged with frivolous cases? Good luck getting all these cases to court.

If I had a 5% chance of buying a CD before, now it's at 0%.

Guess my RIAA boycott continues indefinitely. That's fine... there hasn't been anything good out in years.

lol..just wait till the end of the year when the next generation of p2p programs come out...ones where you can't be traced

Wow, I already stopped downloading songs a while ago. But to put people in jail that is a little harsh don't you think? Not even most people who steal t-shirts and get caught at K-Mart go to jail for that.

I guess putting the death penalty on this type of thing would be off the wall but man... just think. 18 year old put to death for sharing Metallica music on KazzaX3.0383!

:Q

Can Kazaa Lite be traced?

It's being tracked, and monitord by the RIAA, MPAA, FBI.. at this very moment, they continually search, obtain an IP, the subpoena the ISP to obtain the user information.

Thank god that I have my Firewall and Port Scanner Programs at the ready!

I don't see how this helps any considering running a p2p client means you are the one establishing a connection. All they'd need to do to catch some people is to rip a few of their newest releases, run kazaa and check the IPs of their incoming connections. Your firewall would never come into the picture...nor your port scanner. Actually, I'm not sure how a port scanner would help you at all? Are they running illicit programs on your machine you don't know of? Are you gonna scan everyone you download from to some as yet unseen purpose?

I've been wondering... how would they deal with a college town, where you have a plethora of college students swapping and sharing music at the same time? There are potentially thousands upon thousands of IPs to keep track of in one very concentrated area.

Alright who's moving to Canada, leasing an OC3 line, and putting a 10TB server online with every GOD DAMN SONG?! Fvck the RIAA!!!

I think Kazaa should retaliate and have an IP spoof "feature" in their next software release. 🙂
