RIAA petition

Why must everyone make a big deal out of the fact that the girl is 12? She chose to download the songs and the RIAA followed up by going after the parents.

I agree...if this was a 25 year old single male, no one would freakin care.

I would. I care about every single person that the RIAA has attacked for 'stealing' their own culture. While I can appreciate the RIAA's rights to its own property, I can't support the rights of the RIAA to attack people for 'theft' of copywritten items not registered to the 'RIAA' but to its member organizations. The RIAA has no right to sue for that. Their members should do that individually. They also have no right to spam the court system with hundreds of lawsuits filed in the wrong jurisdiction, to abuse misguided laws to force our ISPs to give up our information without ANY proof, and forcing legitimate businesses (Read: Napster, they're trying to do it to Kazaa) out of business just because the users pay no mind to the TOS. The RIAA has chosen its victims well so far, they've avoided people that know the issue at hand and know that they can play a part in stopping the madness just by fighting it out [and potentially winning - remember where the burdon of proof is?] instead of accepting minor fines and a 'cease and decist' order.

Obviously, it?s because more people will have sympathy for a 12-year old. Whatever it takes to get more people to sign that petition is good publicity and I support it 110%...
