The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) said Thursday that it had filed 717 new lawsuits against alleged file-swappers, including 68 unnamed people at universities.

The suits come several days after the record label group filed its arguments with the Supreme Court in a case examining the broader legal liability of file-swapping software companies. Movie studios also filed their own second round of lawsuits against individual computer users on Wednesday.

If these guys were still doing this AFTER the last rounds of lawsuits, they deserve to be sued.

It's just stupid. It's like stealing a car from a cop.

I'm not all anti-piracy, but common sense needs to prevail.

I still think they should have to sue people individually like every other person in the US, instead of groups of people at a time.

RIAA wants to save money, because they are so poor.

More insanity. I wish they would focus on evolving as in industry vs. trying to stem the tide of those determined to steal their stuff.

I personally like the Weed format of downloading stuff as well as the itunes format.

Otherwise, I also believe that fair use needs broader lattitude.

The riaa is the sux0r.

You mean there is still music worth downloading? Most people I know downloaded all the stuff that was worth the time and effort 2 years ago.

I'm with ya on that one. Greedy bastards. I wish they would realize they are not going to stop people. They will just find other ways of doing it.

It was just like when the tape came out and suddenly people could make copies of other tapes. OMGNOOOEEESS!11 The tapes will ruin our industry!! We will have to wait another year to put that add-on to our mansion!! Oh the humanity!

AGREE. They have to learn to embrace ne technology. File swapping is here to stay. if it gets "ruined', people will start sharing CDs with friends.

The end of this is obvious. Artists are going to be releasing music for free download. Musicians (not Jessic Simpson) make money by performing live. The truth is, the future will bring an end to big record labels that make a big chunk of change out of record sales.

So far, Prince has figured it out.

The deterrent by successfully suing is working. Many have completely stopped downloading. I don't think they actually believe they'll put an end to it, but it sure is scaring the $#!T out of a lot of sharers. And if you don't stop, you're just asking for it.

You had no right to it for free in the first place. No need to be a cowboy.

I might have stopped downloading but I sure haven't started wasting my money on their crappy CD's. I seriously doubt that it has improved their sales figures for CD's though Paid Online Music Sites have done well. The reason for that is you can just pay for single songs instead of having to buy a CD full of crap with only 1 or 2 decent songs on it.

They just need to get with the program and create their own file sharing website. I have no problem paying for the music I want and know I'll listen to. I do have a problem paying nearly $20 to listen to a couple good songs stuck in with a bunch of crappy ones.

Then again, as mentioned above, most of the music today isn't worth listening to. Much of the music I listen to is difficult to find.
