Recording industry files 261 lawsuits against Internet music file sharers, announces amnesty program for individuals.

I wonder how many of you will stop downloading music.

I stopped downloading music because all the new music is complete sh!t. I wish I had something worthwhile to download.

"announces amnesty program for individuals." Well FVCK!!! Who the hell gave them the sweeping power to enforce the law? No company should ever be able to survive after alienating and suing all their customers. I will be very happy the day every company in the RIAA goes bankrupt.

so they're actually getting people for this now? Does anyone on here know of anyone who has been caught? And are they just catching people off of Kazaa?

I agree but you need to be 'in the circle'. ;)

I wonder how long before the movie people follow the same route as RIAA.

Enforce the law? Did you even read the article? Signing the declaration basically means you are exempt from being sued - not arrested.

People steal from WalMart all the time. If they get caught, they get arrested. How is that any different than what the RIAA is doing? Except in this case, the police authorities aren't actually doing a thing - hence, why they are suing instead of arresting.

If I steal a CD in Walmart that has 15 songs on it, they aren't going to sue me for $2.25 million.

because the riaa has been targeting parents or grandparents who don't even know what their kids are doing, and young kids who don't know that what they're doing is wrong. Do you think it is right for the RIAA to ruin family's lives based on the weak evidence they use?

Instead, you'll be fined with criminal charges placed on your records. Not to mention spending the night or week in jail. The 2.25 mill is rediculous. There isn't a chance in hell, the RIAA will even receive a fraction of that amount.

It's the parent's responsibility to know what their children are doing! People lambast parental figures all the time when some kid breaks something, steals something, or brings a knife or gun to school. People shout from the rooftops that the adults in the house should have know that there kids were delinquents.

But now it's not the parent's fault? Hypocrites. The RIAA cannot sue children, so the parents are the next likely target - and justifiably so.

Right. Steal a $13 CD and go to jail for a week.

The real reason why CD sales have gone down so dramatically is due to instant messaging.

It's all about ripping your own, sharing sucks.

Why risk it for low quality, poorly ripped/encoded crap?

And you must also delete all of the mp3's from your computer, and never download them again. So why don't I just NOT tell the RIAA, delete my MP3's, and not download anymore? I'd have amnesty then. What's the point of telling them at all?

Exactly, the amnesty thing is bullcrap anyway.

My comment was more toward this post: "Well FVCK!!! Who the hell gave them the sweeping power to enforce the law?"
My point was, "What does signing a lawsuit amnesty have anything to do with the law?"

Of course not, but you would need to hire a lawyer and spend thousands in legal fees and miss alot of school or work if you want to fight them, else give them your bank statement and let them take everything that you own.

The RIAA is using predatory legal tactics to take money from others to finance their litigious jugernaut.
