Is the RIAA planning to take any steps into newsgroup file sharing/transferring?
Any word or opinions on this?

I don't think they can. Usenet is a lot harder to regulate and track because of all the inherent concessions to anonymity. Look at all the illegal material on Usenet right now. No one's getting caught, at least not easily.

Good luck doing that with any servers outside the US.

I was more ocncerned with ip tracking, which they are using with the Verizon case(s), afaik. ISP's that provide newsgroup access don't block addresses. Can they not monitor downloading?

Wont happen. Usenet is impossible to control any meaningful way. Remember, Osama and gang used the Usenet as communication channels.

RIAA got spanked on Friday by federal judge. The judge ruled that peer to peer tools like napster and kazaa aren't illegal anymore than a home vcr or cassette recorder. He threw out their lawsuits and told them not to come back, EVER! Well, that last part might be an bit much. There are soooo many places to look, if you're the riaa, that they can never possibly find all the peeps that are sharing/trading. Winmx, irc, gnutella variations and other tools are so prolific that they could never even make a dent. It's much worse than drugs.

It's also proof that the RIAA is too wealthy and they have lawyers sitting around figuring out ways to look gainfully employed.

...And that's why Hilary Rosen gave her resignation (for end of year) cuz she (and others) saw that further efforts were a futile.
