Because my case and mobo are such that using an 80->60mm adapter isn't feasible, I figured I would just use a rheostat and any old fan that was fairly quiet to begin with. Only problem is, I haven't been able to find one that is both easy to use and cheap.

Any suggestions on what rheostats I should use and with what fan? Also, is the PAL6035 better or worse than the Taisol CGK. Those are the two HSF that I am considering.

Rheostats by nature is tough to make and hard to use (aorta), there's really no easly solution to your problem man.

The tests I have seen put the Alpha's and the Taisol 742 side by side when equipped with the same fans.

Do a search of the forums for rheostats. I asked for information about them a couple of days ago and received quite a bit of help.
