Rheobus

1. The NB doesn't really need a fan unless you're doing extremely heavy overclocking. A heatsink should like the Zalman should be just fine.
2. If you're not overclocking or too concerned about temps, then the fan would be alright.

1. No overclocking AFAIK.
2. Alright, cool. What about an overclock of 100mhz (well, from a 1.46GHZ to a 1.53GHZ) ... should be ok with a Vantec 60mm right?

And, anyone know the model number for the fan on an Enlight 7237?

If your goal is to replace the Enlight's power-supply fan, I suggest the Panaflo L1A 12-volt model (be sure you're getting 12-volt and not 24-volt, I know Newegg had/has 24-volt for some freakish reason).

This one? FBA08A12L1A

I guess if you know about it, then the PSU fan is a bit loud. I'm not sure whether to get the Vantec's or these ones.

Thanks for all your help. Just wondering if you knew of a way I could use an 80mm fan with my SK6. I was thinking about just getting a set of the metal holders (those thin wire things) that attach to your CPU to hold the fan in place except get one for an 80mm fan. I'm not sure how securely it would fit to the HSF though, so that's probably not a good idea. Fan funnels won't work either because of the fact that the SK6 doesn't have screw holes to mount the funnel on - so is my only option to buy another Heatsink?

Rotate the fan 45 degrees. That's how I've been running mine.

Need pics. I'm afraid the Fan will fall off the HSF when I move the case.

I got a machine from another ATer in trade many years ago that used the 80mm + SK6+ combo. Rubber bands were employed to maintain clip tension. :disgust:

Not the best way to do things, but it did survive a cross-country UPS trip.

You could use rubber bands or you can use the metal brackets that come with the SK6. I used the brackets and cut notches out on the fan so that the brackets would fit without rubbing the fan.

I've got to see a pic of the rubber bands, I'm not sure how that could apply tension with rubber bands 😛.

You might be able to use the 60x25 fan clips if you rotate the 80mm fan 45 degrees from the orientation that a normal 60mm fan would sit (corners of fan where sides should normally be). If you can find a 70x25mm or 70x15mm fan, it might work even better. Not much of a techie if you can't visualize that without pix...

yu0 sux @ teh visualization

Paint 0wnz j00.

Orange part in the SK6. Yellow is the rubber band. Get it now? 😉

I've got to be blind. I still don't see the point of the rubber band in the pic, is it just to hold the two grey tabs together to keep the fan in place?

Ok.....forget the rubber bands. Do you have the metal clips that hold the fan to the heatsink? If so, take the heatsink off and put the clips on it. Slide a 80mm fan in at a 45 degree angle. Look and see where the clips touch the fan. If necessary, take a pocket knife or something and notch out two spots on each side where the clips touch the fan(that gives the clip something to hold on to). Then, reattach the heatsink(after applying more thermal paste) and put your fan on there. 🙂

Makes sense. After all, the 80s and the 60s all have the same width right?

No...the 80mm will stick out further. Have another look at M4H's picture. You need to be looking at the silver parts.....those would be the metal clips. You can expect the fan to overhang a fair amount on all 4 sides. Just make sure to spin the fan by hand before you fire it up to make sure that the clips don't rub the fan blades. If they do, you need to adjust the clips or make the notches in different places. 🙂

Awesome. Got it, thanks.

If I understand what you mean, then thats a pretty easy question. The CPU voltage can be changeable through your BIOS (as long as your motherboard supports voltage changing). Don't lower it too much or it will become unstable or not even boot. For the fan voltages, one word: Rheobus (fan controller) 🙂

fan controller controls one fan, or all? how much are they? good brand? .../.etcetc.

I think you could hook up a couple fans onto one channel as long as their total voltage draw is under the voltage allowed for one channel. Sunbeam probably makes the best fan controllers, the Vantec Nexus series is pretty good too. They usually cost ~$15-$25USD.

My I865 Asus P4P8X runs extremely hot on passive cooling. Even whle im not OCing.

Cpu temp 32C
NB temp 42C

And all im doing is web browsing.

Edit: and thats after putting AS5 on the northbridge and adding a rotated 60mm fan, it was running even hotter. Under load it can get over 50C even after the changes.

Not too bad. I'm pulling in temps of about 10C slower, but I've got an SK6 and a Crystal Orb...

NB temp? What's that?
