RH9 ISO CD Install Problems 'IndexError'

I downloaded RH9 from LinuxISo_Org and can't get passed the first 2 minutes of the installation. I have installed RH8, SuSE, Slackware, so I am familiar with the install. I boot to the RH9 CD, it starts fine, ask me what language, type of keyboard, then 'install from cd'. That's as far as it goes. It says there is cd not found!! How can that be, since it shows the RH9 boot screen, and goes through a few install steps??

I downloaded it on 3 different computers, burned it several times, and still get no further. I check the CD's on my Windows box, and it shows them full of RH files.......

Any help would be appreciated :D

I know you can help Bing Bong :)

I can't remember if Red Hat 9 has it, but previous version of Red Hat do, try running a media check on the cds. It shoudl be an option before the GUI installer starts. It will verify everything is good. If it isn't, be sure to check the ISO images against the md5 file, and try burning it again.

If you burned the ISO's at high speed, try backing off a bit - many people have had problems specifically with RH because they burned too quickly.

asb002, it never gets that far......I remember RH8 asking to check the media.
cleverhandle, I will try burning at a slower speed. :)

Thanks for the help.

Tried burning @ 16x, still get no further. I can't see how it can say, no cd found, when it has been installing off the cd up to that point??????

Because when you boot from a CD, you use emulation to make the boot files appear to be a floppy or a generic device - the OS doesn't actually see a CD-ROM until the point you're getting stuck at. Have you tried a different CD-ROM? Perhaps the OS doesn't like your firmware wizardry.

Tried a Lite-On CDRW, and an NEC CD-ROM drive........same two drives I used to install RH8. RH9 sees them on boot-up, as I can see them listed.
I'm downloading another ISO directly from RedHat, we'll see if that changes anything.

Again, I appreciate your help. :)

I notice in the Installation Guide (p.24), it has a section "What if the IDE CD-ROM Was Not Found?" and suggests booting with

linux hdc=cdrom

substituting for hdc as appropriate. I'm guessing that disables scsi emulation and forces the stock IDE CD-ROM driver during the install.

You mean to say you actually READ the installation guide???? WTF? You are not supposed to do that.... :)

Montano, has your problem been resolved?

No, not yet.....

getting a little farther along now, but got this message: IndexError: list index out of range

then the install stops and says to reboot, over and over...........
