Well even Kovalchuk gets to ride the pine once in a while because he chooses not to play in his own zone. A 20 year old leading the entire league in goals, while playing for a terrible team. Exciting players like this don't come along often... and Ovechkin is touted as the best prospect to come along in 20 years. I'm salivating - you have no idea.

Caps fan? There's a few reasons I was never interested in pro basketball or hockey growing up...they're the Caps and the Bullets/Wizards...

But that's cool.

It takes a lot to be a Caps fan. Can't deny that. ;) Basketball in general, can suck it.

Crosby is next year. The kid is already said to be the next coming of Gretzky. He had ridiculous numbers as a 14 year old. 14 ! Anyway, who knows how they'll do the draft if there's no season to base it from. They may just keep this same finishing order :)D) from this year and do a lottery from that again.

Probably a lottory again.

But maybe a lotto for all the teams with an equal chance if there is not season next year :)

We shall have to hold judgement on Crosby & AO ........... remember when Lindros & Alex Daigle where the next coming of gretz? :Q

Daigle....well that worked out. ROFL!!

:D

Congrats to the caps...although I have no idea how they got the pick over Pittsburgh....

Edit: Forgot one thing. rh71, is there anyone I can speak to about the Caps getting rid of that god-awful siren they use when they score a goal @ home. Everytime I hear it I want to stick hot metal stakes in my ears...lol.

;)

If he had stayed healthy, Lindros would have been one of the all-time greats. He actually produced, Daigle was just a flop.

Ovechkin though, I think this guy is Jagr Jr, in terms of talent.

I'm more impressed when the Wings keep pulling these no names out of the draft in the late rounds that turn out to be superstars. Case in point, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. Zetterberg was picked in the 7th round, 210 overall (1999) and Datsyuk was picked in the 6th round, 171 overall (1998). Those are some damn fine late round picks by the Wings, and it's a tribute to their scouting staff.

Sure they can afford him......... there is a limit on how much rookies can get :D None of those crazy $10 million contacts.

Look at Nash, Zherdev & Gaboriks contract, very affordable

I LOVE that siren mixed in with the goal horn. As long as they don't keep it on for so long, it's great... SEE ?

Ted Leonsis, the owner of the team, can be reached at washingtoncaps@aol.com (he's an AOL executive)... he answers every email he gets... congratulate him on Ovechkin. ;) And don't worry... he can afford him...

Linstrom and Konstantinov were late round picks too.

I predict that the Blackhawks will squander their #3 pick just to save a few bucks.

Are you somehow insinuating that Bill Wirtz is CHEAP? I don't believe it!

Alexandre Picard, LW, Lewiston (QMJHL) -- Picard is ranked fourth overall by Central Scouting and the top-ranked player from the Quebec league. He is a left winger with a dazzling set of skills, and potentially able to carry a lot of muscle on his 6-2 frame. He has put up great numbers for a weak team. He's not selfish with the puck and is a natural scorer

I have seen the kid play, he is damn good and getting better by the day! One of those players that would do better every year!

Obligatory photo of me as close as I will be to the NHL. (Picard is the kid with the Blue hat and glasses. ) :)
