Glad I held onto my phone for a little longer. We now have working builds of both CM9 and AOKP, with MIUI and others down the road. 4G, Wifi, all data works. Chad cracked the RIL and we're home free. There are still some kinks with the camera, and SD card mounting but they are minimal issues compared to the RIL. Now it's just a matter of time. With a better camera, screen and radio, and now AOSP, the Rezound may be Verizon's 2nd best choice when it comes to phones, behind the SGS3, and even that is debatable.

Just a heads up. :)

How is the Rezound better than the Galaxy nexus?

Better screen, better camera, better battery life, better signal/radio. The only thing the nexus had was the software and now that's an even field.

You forget better build quality, it might be bigger thicker and heavier but it's built close to how an actual phone should be, and not a plasticy toy like the Nexus.

Bigger, thicker, heavier, and slower doesn't make it sound like much of a winner to me. Plus the display on the Rezound isn't even optically bonded to the outer glass which is completely unacceptable in 2012.

How can you claim that it's an even field to the Galaxy Nexus in the software department if there are still bugs in the Camera, SD card, bluetooth, and numerous other problems etc... on the Rezound that still needs to be worked out? o_O

Dumb nexus fan kids in here, the nexus is not that good of a phone. Jelly bean or not radio issues makes it a instant fail

When will they be fixed?

As soon as the devs get them working. Could be tomorrow could be a few weeks. These guys do this stuff in their free time, whenever they get it done. As I said, the RIL was the hardest part. Now it's just fixing up all the quirks. Jelly Bean is great but when you dont get very good signal I don't care if you already have KLP, doesn't do you anything.

I'll take my Rez and AOKP with its better hardware than a GNex with lousy signal and a mediocre battery.

I thought I was up on all the phone lingo. What is RIL?

I'm just ready to go to a factory ICS image. Then once the devs have made a quality, 100% stable ROM based on the factory one, I'll go with a custom ROM most likely.

Just ignore the Nexus nut-swingers. The Rezound is a great phone, it was available months before the GNex, and the dev options are exploding with an unlocked bootloader, S-OFF, and now whatever RIL is.

<--Had Rezound since day 1. Wouldn't consider waiting for the GNex since my OG Droid was (A) old and (B) got a cracked screen a couple weeks before the Rezound launched. I'm glad I didn't wait either.

lol the phone has never had radio issues. It was just a case of it displaying less bars at the same dbm level as other phones and people would look at it and be like "omg this phone's reception sucks" even though there were no actual connection issues whatsoever. Anandtech did an article on it pretty soon after the phone came out.

Snapdragon S3 is a less powerful/advanced processor than the Omap4 as well.

<- Owned a Rezound and a Droid Razr before the Nexus. Nexus and Razr(not even Razr Maxx) are better than the Rezound.

RIL = Radio Interface Layer.

The simple explanation is that the RIL will make sure that the ROM can talk to the CDMA/LTE radios on the phone.

Okay? So you finally cracked the RIL? Great. Like I said, development for all these devices is a WIP. FOREVER. You have an SGS2-era phone which means it's over 1 year old. Meanwhile, people have moved on to quad core phones. By the time they fully resolve issues for your dual core phone, the next quad core Nexus is out enjoying the latest AOSP Android and potentially the then-current CM will be fully functional too.

Anyway, this is how I feel. My SGS2 just got a lot of stuff fixed in the last few months, and while that's great and all, the bigger picture is that it does suck we're always waiting to fix something that *should* be working. I respect the devs and all and I realize there are tons of limitations, but this is just reality, that we'll always be waiting for basic things to be fixed before our phones run custom ROMs fine.

And honestly, Software is more important than the hardware here. You can talk about your better camera or better whatever, but the fact is GNex users already enjoyed that for 8-9 months now. You have meanwhile been hampered until now. To me having to use a crappy gimped phone for months is not worth it. Even if things eventually get cracked, by the time they do, newer devices are out.

This ^

The Gnex did have flakiness with transitions from EVDO 3G to 4G to 3G on the release radios though, like many VZW LTE phones do. Most of those problems were resolved with the baseband updates in the 4.0.4 OTA.

Except my phone isn't gimped. I've been running ics and sense 4 for months. I'm glad you enjoy the nexus. I'm also glad you felt the need to threadcrap in a topic about a phone you don't even have. For those of us who do have the rez this is a pretty big deal. And yes I will happily keep my camera and radio and when aokp is ready for prime time ill be even happier. :)

Sense isn't a selling point. :p Crappy manufacturer UI is crappy.

GNex has AOKP as well, but with a better screen, CPU, and battery. The official OTA for ICS only includes Sense 3.6, btw. Its my personal opinion that phones should be compared primarily based on the stock software. After market roms and builds can improve them considerably, but those that do are a VERY small niche.

Listen, regardless of which phone is better, the fact that we got RIL on this phone now is huge for us that have it. That was my point. So I don't offend any more people and their phones, the "THIRD BEST PHONE" on Verizon now has working RIL and AOSP options. And as anyone who flashes roms knows, yes, it is a WIP. However, I will have this phone for awhile because I'm not losing my unlimited data, so I don't mind waiting another month or two for them to fix sd mounts and the camera. :)

Of course, I realize this a niche. 90% of users don't know or care what RIL even is. However, for the crack flashers among us, we know its huge, and from what I hear, HTC really did a sloppy job "taping on" LTE basically. Instead of writing it from the ground up, they basically did a patch job. But I digress.

Again, Rezound flashers, be happy. :)

Just downloaded OTA ICS for my rezound.

I like it, but its pretty much the same as gingerbread... sense 3.6 is like... unchanged.

Never said RIL wasn't a good thing, it held back the Thunderbolt for long while too. But getting RIL for a mediocre, EOL phone isn't a huge victory.

Third best phone on Verizon may be an overstatement though.

Okay, let's just make it news that the RIL got cracked. Thjere's no reason to argue whether its the 3rd best phone, 4th best phone, 5th best phone. A good phone got a reprieve within the modding community. That's all we care about. But honestly, threads like these bug me because it's about a single phone that applies to a single carrier. No offense to you OP, but I hate US-centric phone threads about phones with idiotic names. But that's probably because I always buy unlocked international phones :D I dunno. It's like then we need an announcement for every phone? Isn't that what XDA is for?
