Ditching the 65 amp 1G Ford Alt and going with a 130 amp 3G. I'm going to make all new wiring, but was wondering why they bothered to connect the alt to the starter solenoid when the battery is less that 1 foot from the alternator? Anyone see a downside to connecting straight to the battery?

No, with a Ford the solenoid is usually easily reached. If not go to the battery. Electrically it is the same point.

the *only* reason is that is one less harness connection that is crossing from the engine vibration to the fixed parts of the car. Not much of a reason.

It is a diesel, but ill be using the super flexy cable anyways. Thanks for the replys. Now I just have to find a spot to mount the fuse. Got no room in a van chassis
