Reward if Found: ATi Crossfire

*sighs* I had hoped that the lesson was learned, but it's readily apparent that it hasn't been. Let's see what happens with the R520, and if that follows suit.

Does it really matter?

What % of the market is using SLI?

I think it might be better if ATI didn't have it at all, actually.

Voodoo who? Never heard of'em. And Cross-Fire R520 is what i'm more interested in, although I'll never buy one or SLi for that matter.

Makes sense to delay the release until R520 cards are out anyways. Crossfire with ATI's current crop of cards is not a practical solution.

there was a demonstration crossfire unit powercolor had ago at the computertech conference or something bak in september in san jose.

wait for r520 crossfires. there's no point in crossfiring the old gen cards when they're limited to 8x and 16x12 60 hz

It matters because it's yet another paper launch by ATI, the product is nowhere to be found.

Yes it is a paper launch . They are not going to mass produce last years gen master cards when they have to make current gen as well.

But you would think they would be mass-producing the boards and would have those ready to go.

Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come, you know 2 days from now.

Im sure most mobo form last year can use crossfire now with a bios flash if they have dual PIC-E on intel 955x chipset.

Ah out of the Loop a little. VoodooPC is the third biggest Gaming PC company behind Alienware and Falcon Northwest.

Seriously, Why crossfire? I bet ATI will lose alot of money because of crossfire. They should have let Nvidia keep the dual GPU market for now, and work on a better solution for the r520s. Right now, its too expensive, and too late. IMO, if they had crossfire support for ANY mobo with 2x 16 PCI-E slots, then it would have been a BIG hit.

If you read his interview in CPU, you can see hes bitter towards ATi from past dealings. Apparently, he didnt get the special treatment that Dell did, and didnt like it.

That being said, they need to release them. Not that many people would buy them right now anyways, with the current cards. Perhaps the new cards will give more of a reason to.

3- 5 %?

I think you're way too high. Probably 3-5% on PC hardware forums, but the average gamer doesnt even know SLI is out there. Take a look at the steam survey, for an idea on what cards are being most used.

I agree....small market and they are already rather late to the game....

No. Ati never expected to sell x800 Xfire this late. There ARE board available for the few x800s [diehard fans] who really want it.

There will NEVER be mass-production of x800 xfire . . . it's not a paper launch since the limited [almost Zero] "demand" has been met. 😉

NOW if ati SCREWS up r520 . . . it'll be a VERY different story. :Q

It sure seems like ATI doesn't understand their market, or they just don't care. The only way I see them saving this mess is if the 520 is nothing less than awsome.
They might try to do what Valve software did with TF2, just stop talking about, don't ever answer a question about it, and hope that everyone forgets it was ever announced.

Meh, as long as Nvidia makes quality cards im gonna stay away from ATI. As of late they just seem to be standing beside the ball instead of being on it...and it seems they are content in this.
