Umm, cooling methods? What's the meaning? Are you asking for HSF recommendations?

I have a GLobal Win Fop38 which works great,but sounds like a hair dryer running inside my case. Many are using, and liking Hedgehogs, Fop 32's, Taisols, and many other HSF's. They are quieter than mine. I also recommend Arctic Silver thermal compound .

One thing I tried & has worked well is the Alpha PEP66, changed the way the shroud mounts (Fan on top) lowered (my measured) temps by 3-4C 🙂

I agree, your question isn't precise, but...

I would recommend a Taisol, unless you are going for extreme overclocking ( ie. you can live with freezes and don't run SETI as a screen saver! ).

Yes, i was asking about heatsink and fan combos,sorry i didn't make that clear........which mount easiest and cool effectively?

Well, i've found that the Alpha Pal mounts quite effortlessly. Actually HSFs even Socket A ones aren't really that hard to mount if you take the extra time to be careful adn make it easier for yourself.

If you're using an ALpha, make sure that you've good thermal compound to replace the default thermal grease which comes with it. Also, an exhaust fan is recommended near the CPU to get the hot air which is sucked from the HS out as soon as possible.

Ok....Just got my HedgeHog installed yesterday, before I was using a GlobalWin Fop32-1 (descent cooler, but you have better options for the money). First round I put a small amount of Artic Silver on my T'Bird 800 and slapped the HedgeHog on with little effort. Fired that baby up and went running. I picked up three digital therms. from www.millisec.com for temp monitoring. Of course the closest I can get to the CPU is at the very base of the HS, to monitor the temp. None the less I cranked it up to 1 gig. at 1.85v. She seems to run ok, but I am getting errors here and there. Under full load she peaked at 40.2 C. Something told me to change. So, went back. Round two: CLEANED THE CPU WITH isoprohol alcohol. Slapped artic silver on, installed the Hedgehog, and loaded CPUidle. Under full load she peaked at 38 C. Not a grave improvement but it will definately help. Seems pretty solid in the manfacturing, and I have spoken with the guy, VERY intelligent man. As a matter of fact, he refused to sell me one of his older Athlon solutions as he said I would be wasting my money. Give me a couple of weeks and I'll have you a solution, he says. I thought that was very noble. Anywho, my suggestion......CLEAN THE CPU, artic silver, HedgeHog (it's loud as h**l, but works GREAT).
