So, when my parents built their house about 10 years ago, they wired up the place with cat 5e and coax (I think we got about 80 drops total in a 5bdr house. ^-^)... but they still haven't terminated the cables in most of the rooms. They've just terminated as they needed them. I'm planning on going through and cleaning everything up and terminating everything.
But to do most of that I'll need some tools and instead of just winging it and buying things as I go, I figured it would be a good idea to go ahead and make myself a nice little cabling toolkit for the future. I've been looking for a review site of sorts that would help me pick what brands are worth while and what features are worth paying extra for, but my google skills are failing me. I've also done a search on the forum, but minus a few loyalists (I try not to throw around the term "fanboy") and limited experience recommendations, I really haven't seen any solid recommendations with cited sources.
Can anyone point me to a place with a few reviews or "round-ups" of networking tools I can look at? Or is this really overkill? It is possible that the tools needed for this job are pretty generic so the gain in reviewing everything would be near worthless.
I could also use a similar advice for things like the a punch-down patch panel, keystones, etc.
If the general consensus is that there's no real site or forum that compares and contrasts these kinds of tools and equipment, then I'll will post a list of the tools I think and get some help fleshing out what the kit could use. Finally we'll look toward brand recommendations. But for now, I'm just looking to see if some reviews already exist.
