review: scythe shogun vs. zalman 9500

For those of you interested I just did a comparison of the shogun against the 9500. System as follows:

amd 4800, stock, at 1.36v
2 x 1gb ballistix, running at DDR400; timings: 2,2,2,5 at 2.78v
seasonic s12 600
evga 6200tc
antec p180
evga sli mobo
scythe shogun w/ 96 cfm masscool fan or zalman 9500

Before i give the results this evga mobo is known for giving bad temp readings. The consensus is that the temperatures are anywhere from 7-15C off. Both coolers were connected directly to a molex connector. The temps were read by MyGuard, a jetway temp measuring program that works on evga boards.

shogun idle: 41 cpu, 39 system
load: 56 cpu, 44 system

9500 idle: 41 cpu, 39 system
load: 63 cpu, 50 system

Load temps were read while running two instances of prime. The 9500 was just installed so I plan to check temps again the next couple of days.

Welcome to Anand skinny 🙂 Interesting...thanks for the testing 😉 How many cfm's does the 9500 push at 12V/full tilt?

I personally will tell you I expect the Scythe Shogun as well as the Ninja to better the 9500!
Even though the 9500 will hold its own!

It would seem that to do a proper review of both coolers you need to check the temps as max rpms; as well as throttling down both coolers fans to take a temp reading at a lower rpm!

Supposedly this is where the 9500 shines is at the lower rpm!!
Its also almost inaudible at the lower rpms!!

I have the 9500 in my system as we speak....

Anyways good luck!!🙂
