It's a vampire movie set in the near future. 95% of the population are vampires. they are a bit too efficient at getting humans, and now their food source is scarce to the point of starvation.

If you accept that people can get turned into vampires instantly by 1 bite, then accept that you can be cured instantly also. if u cant the latter, then skip this movie.

Pros:
i liked the double plot twists near the end.

Cons:
- Vampire with kitchen knife can behead someone?! Nowhere in the movie did it show that regular vampires have super strength.

- CEO turning his daughter into a vampire -> I thought to myself what's the point of this sub-plot? It went nowhere.

- the ending sucked. If the guy didnt kill all newly cured humans, it would have been better. THe film would have wrapped up nicely.

now you're back to the original 2 cured humans, and back to square one. And the film ends there with them driving away into the sunrise leaving you to wonder what next?

heck, leaving all the newly cured humans alive, and end with them driving off into the sunrise would have been a better end to the movie.

It might be worth matinee pricing. It's definitely worth $1.50 Redbox.

OK, can you add the actual spoiler tags around the stuff I don't want to read. i jsut wanted your opinion of it, like it was good, bad or wait for DVD. Anything.

By the way, where is this on on rotten tomatoes right now? RT is blocked where I am.

I thought it was a pretty decent movie but probably a rental for most people.
I also wasn't fond of the ending.

I could be wrong, but didn't they leave the guy tied to a chair at a different exit than the one they tried to leave from? So there would be the survivors of the second group of soldiers elsewhere?

*shrug* I didn't think it was really that horrible.

This is the worst review ever. It's not even a review. You just picked out random nitpicks, which is fine but don't call it a review.

I saw the movie and was a little let down but didn't hate it the way you do. I was hoping for more exciting action sequences and was disappointed the "action" scenes were very tame compared to say, Blade. However, in retrospect, it would be silly to believe Ethan Hawke's character, a meek scientist, would suddenly become Jason Bourne overnight.

A really scary thought is how inefficient their conversion plan was. They sacrifice a cured vampire to convert the others back. But the bloodlust is so strong they rip the cured vampire to pieces, then they attack each other. So after those two waves at the end, only like 5 people survived and like 20 were killed. Also, now Ethan Hawke and the Elvis guy are more valuable than ever. If they don't plan out their next steps very carefully, the cure will be lost forever (well unless they wrote down the sun cure).

By the way - you do turn into a vampire with one bite. That's how ALL vampire lore works.

I actually liked the movie a lot. Willem Dafoe was awesome with his characteristic cheesiness a la Shadow of the Vampire and Boondock Saints. If you liked him in those movies, you'll like him in this one. I really enjoyed how the overall theme of the movie was serious but it had a lot of chuckle moments where they make fun of vampire lore (exploding when staked/arrowed, no reflection, avoiding rays of sunlight, the rampant gore). The serious themes were pretty interesting too (especially how, for all their normality vampires basically devolve into insane animals).

And come on, how could you not love a movie where Dafoe delivers "About as safe as riding a five dollar hooker bareback" with his signature smirk?

i liked this movie a lot more than you guys did apparently.

I thought it was a really unique twist on the vampire story. I liked how the world had been changed ever so slightly to accommodate the vampires that are now the rulers. I actually liked the ending.

My favorite scene was definitely when the people were lined up at the coffee stand and one dude reached back for the bag of blood.

There were only two things i didn't really like:

1. The dr. buddy coming out at the end. Too typical for a movie that was so different, not to mention when he gets shot thru the heart he does that "last guy takes longer to die" thing which is always annoying

2. The healing of biting a cured vampire was a bit too obvious.
