Just so you know, I never give away major plot points in my reviews, so rest easy on that account. That said, here's the story on this movie.
Cast: A group of unknowns spearheaded by Josh Hartnett of Pearl Harbour and Black Hawk Down fame. Others: Shannyn Sossamon, Vinessa Shaw, Monet Mazur, Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Synopsis: Having dogged his last serious relationship to death, Matt Sullivan (Harnett) is having trouble putting his mental game back together to move on and focus on new things (read: women). With things in his sex life finally, um, climaxing in total disaster, Matt is hit with divine inspiration - to take a personal vow giving up sex and all things sex-related for 40 days during Lent.
What makes this movie hysterical and charming is a combination of actor/actress charm, storyline and camera work. The guy is always on the run in between sequences, and he does a fair bit of tripping and falling on his ass. It's pretty funny.
There's a lot of built-in suspense to a movie with this kind of plot and that works great for keeping you interested throughout the movie. Expect a LOT of really sweet
P) sexual innuendo, they stacked on hot 24-ish female actresses in tiny little summer things like nothing else. God, would I love working at Matt's company!
This is probably the date movie of the year, as long as the girl you're with doesn't mind you muttering the occasional "holy hell" during any number of interesting scenes...
Action = Of the adult kind, a fair bit.
Nudity = Lots!
Plot = Simple and enchanting.
Acting = Perfect, everyone played their roles to a tee.
Bottom line? It's the perfect movie to complement an evening out with your lady of the night. I did a lot of laugh-out-loud'ing and so did everyone else in the theatre (only about half full, is that because of high ticket prices these days?). Enjoyable and relaxing, go check this one out.
Official sully rating (between -4 and 12): A 7 if you're young, lonely and don't need to be reminded of people falling in love. A 10 if you have someone to take with you to watch the movie.
Edit: To add thumbs-up thread icon.
