Reverse Entry Drift awesomeness from japan

Drifting...the slowest way around any race track. I don't get the awesomeness...it's kind of like that fake wrestling bullshit that is so popular in the south.

read the other thread, i said something similar. 'drifting' as a sport is teh sux0r, in my opinion.

but i also said i still acknowledge that entering a corner backwards and making it look smooth takes an effing lot of skill. it's kind of like the people who do stunt shows on sportbikes- they're not at all using the bikes to their potential or for their intended purpose, but that doesn't make it easy to do some of that shit and not kill yourself.

Umm wrestling isn't popular only in the south. It's the most popular show on Cable TV every week. If only southern people were watching it, it wouldn't be as popular as it is.

Yeah, I always look at this as kind of a novelty. Racing takes way more skill because you are pushing a car so much harder and faster with more risk if you go beyond your abilities or the cars abilities. Look at the speed the car in that video carries through that corner, it's not anywhere near as fast as a race car could carry through it.

Guys that can do stoppies on a motorcycle don't really impress me much either. It takes skill but really stunting is kind of pointless oooh look at what I can do type stuff.

I'm not sure what that says about cable TV or society in general...but it probably isn't good.

Do the voices of the Japanese announcers on things like this make anyone else laugh? I wonder if our announcers sound just as ridiculous to them.

I think that the fairer comparison would be to dancing.

That's not a fake car on a fake track. The driver has displayed inhuman levels of car control and made it all look supremely graceful.

Yeah, it's not racing, but that doesn't mean it isn't sweet.

Agreed with Morpheus. Also, if the drift driver makes one little mistake at 100+ MPH, he's going into the wall just like a racing driver would. Drifting is not "pretend" in the same way wrestling is.
