I was given two computers, a Compaq and a custom built (both are fairly old).
The Compaq has an AMD Duron 700Mhz, 3 slots for RAM, a TNT 8MB video card, and a 20GB HD.
The Custom-Built has an AMD XP 1600+, 2 slots for RAM, onboard video with no AGP slot, and an 8GB HD.
Ive taken the best of both worlds and came up with an:
AMDXP 1600+ with 786MB PC133 (256MB x 3), 20GB HD, and an ATI 9100 128MB video card (received free!) using the Compaq motherboard.
Everything seems to be working fine, boots up.
I loaded Windows XP Pro SP2, once again, everything seems fine.
After the reboot, I come to Windows for the first time. I take the CD out of the drive and reboot the system again... the computer POSTs and then stops... its a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner.
The weird thing is if I have the Windows CD in the drive, ignore the booting from the CD when given the option to boot from CD, Windows will load. (not sure if it will load with any cd in the drive).
Any ideas on whats causing this?
I was just trying to get a 'decent' computer out of my freebies.
