Rev B Macbook Air wont recognize Runcore SSD on boot from CD

So I have a MBA with a dead HD in it. I dont think I can get it to boot to clone onto the Runcore SSD. So I tried installing the new HD and booting from the OSX Snow Leopard CD btu it doesnt see the SSD as a possible HD to install from. Is there something I have to do to the hard drive before I can use it?
