I am looking to build a new PC and already have a HP Presario. I dont mind spending $100 for a new case but I would rather use it towards a vid card. So is it possible to reuse the case and hard drive from my OEM Presario or not cause I know that u cant add a new mobo and processor to a OEM, (or can u) Thanks for the help.

Look on the back of the computer. Does the layout of the ports and such match an ATX board? Check out a picture on newegg for reference.

I doubt if it will though. HP, Compaq, Dell like to make things proprietary so I doubt if you can even use the PSU again. Time to donate your current computer to a neighborhood kid or you wife.

Most HPs use a custom motherboard layout. The mounting holes will be in the wrong place so no, you probbaly can't re-use the case.

You're pipe-dreaming anyway because you'll need to upgrade the PSU if you buy a modern mobo so I don't see you saving a lot by recycling the case.

If you're on a REALLY tight budget go to a church thrift store and shop for an ATX case. Most of the thrift stores around here have a pile of old computers in the corner. Chances are you'll find an old custom built system with a standard ATX case. ATX case design hasn't changed in 7 years. You'll probably still need a modern PSU if you're going to buy a modern mobo.

Directron and Newegg have good prices on cases with PSUs.

I just put a new mobo into my brother's HP pavilion a230n. Reused the hdd, psu, and cpu. Had to get a new os due to the mobo change.

Added a 9800pro and increased the psu to a 350w Fortron.

This thing has a matx board in an atx case w/atx psu.
