reusing coolermaster heatsink?

Sorry newbie question:

I'm moving my old processor and heatsink from one motherboard to another one. I have a socket A 2100+ athlon and a coolermaster heatsink. The heatsink came with a preapplied phase-change thermal compound. The AMD website says that once this has been used I have to get a new heatsink. Can I instead just clean it off and apply more thermal compound, such as "arctic silver" and reuse the heatsink? Thanks for the help.

Yes, clean the pre-applied stuff off with some Goo-Gone or Goof Off and follow the AS instructions Here. Hope this helps! 🙂

Goof Off, yes. Goo Gone, NO! The residue from the citrus oils will compromise the thermal interface. Follow up with isopropyl alcohol.
